Rimando on the CBA Agreement

Rimando Veteran Real Salt Lake goalkeeper, and player representative Nick Rimando has shown some of his passion for the cause of the players in recent weeks via Twitter and Facebook updates.  He was one of two RSL players (including teammate Nat Borchers) who were on the front-line of the final resolution to the CBA discussions.  Both players spent the last several days in Washington DC for the meetings as both sides gathered there.

Rimando flew back from DC today after the tireless bargaining sessions that occurred over the last several days.  Michael C. Lewis from the Salt Lake Tribune caught up with him just before boarding the plane today.  Here is his article with Rimando’s initial thoughts: Rimando Says Players ‘Got It Done ‘Right’

CBA Deal Reached?

An 11Am (Mountain) teleconference has been called with the league and union regarding the CBA status.  The assumption is that it signals positive movement.  Unclear if its a done deal, or just very close, but it appears to be a great sign.  We’ll keep you posted.

CBA: Some Wacky Thinking

I’m not entirely sure why, but I decided to spend some time thinking about this CBA dispute nightmare. It’s really hard to say something that hasn’t already been said about it, especially with little information about the details of what is going on. However, a couple of wacky thoughts came to my mind. I’m not suggesting that other of them are the reality, but more of a “what if.” Here goes:

Wacky Idea #1:
Dave Checketts issued a not so veiled threat to the players yesterday, “We have a plan if the players strike.” Most people assume that this may be referring to replacement players. Not an easy task to put together if you ask me, but maybe it could be done.

AUDIO: Dave Checketts Interview on KALL 700

Here is the audio from Dave Checkett’s interview with Bill and Spence yesterday on KALL 700 (3 parts).   Of course, the topic du jour?  The CBA agreement.

Most depressing point?  When asked the likelihood that the season would start on time, he replied “less than 50%”.

RSL Quick Notes on St. Patty’s Day

1. Rafa Cox has a trial with Portland.  This could be a great fit.  Close to home, and could give him an opportunity to play that he likely wouldn’t get immediately with an MLS team.

2. Don’t forget today’s matchup against the Charleston battery.  You’ll be able to watch it live on Toronto FC TV at 3PM Mountain.  I’d say there is a good chance that Saborio will see his first action.

RSL Releases Nunez, Loans Nimo to Portland, CBA status

Real Salt Lake today announced the departure of Tino Nunez as he was waived by the club.  The move leaves the club with just three natural forwards in the mix.

In addition, the team announced another season-long loan for Alex Nimo to the Portland Timbers.  These two moves will free up two roster spots which theoretically could put the team in line with the 24-man roster.  However, with the much discussed possible addition of Costa Rican forward Alvaro Saborio, they would likely still need to make an additional move to become roster compliant.  If you followed our last post on this topic, you’d know that our bet would be one out of the trio of David Horst, Rauwshan McKenzie, and Chris Schuler or Raphael Cox.

No new news on the Saborio front but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something.

On the CBA front, a more serious threat of strike potential according to the Soccer Insider.  However, this was tempered by news later in the day from the site of the negotiations that “the meetings were productive.”
