Misc: Robbie Russell came to RSL from Viborg in the summer of the 2008 season. Russell had a strong pedigree as an American soccer player playing in Europe for 7 seasons. Unfortunately he had a severe knee injury while playing with Rosenborg that limited his ability to contribute. Through his experience in Europe Russell made two starts in Champions League action.
Russell’s signature moment in an RSL uniform came on November 22, 2009 in Seattle as he hit the final PK to lift Real Salt Lake to the MLS Cup Championship over the LA Galaxy. The vision of him dropping to his knees, with his team racing to tackle him will forever be etched in the minds of RSL fans.

KIR SCOUTING REPORT
Robbie Russell is a versatile player that can play as a center back, right back, defensive midfielder, or right midfielder. He has seen most of his time at right back where he has been fairly effective. Russell’s experience and knowledge of the game are a big plus when he gets forward with the ball. He is a decent crosser of the ball, and has a powerful shot, although he has yet to net a goal in an RSL kit.
One drawback out of Russell’s propensity to get forward as a wing-back is that it can leave him out of position at times.
