FIFA Ballon d’Or 2014 Candidates Announced

FiFA has announced the names of a total of 23 nominees for the Ballon d’Or 2014 award this Monday 27th October. At the top of the nominees list we can find great players like Lionel Messi, Manuel Neuer and Cristiano Ronaldo. Luis Suarez does not feature among the 23 names announced.

For the Ballon d’Or scores, each player’s club as well as international matches and performance would be considered throughout the whole of the year 2014. This would certainly include performances at the 2014 World Cup. For 2013’s Ballon d’Or a group of 184 coaches and captains as well as 173 prominent members of the media have voted their top three players and this season’s vote would work along the same line.

As per FIFA’s split of the 2013 votes, a player who has been put first will receive five points. The second one will have three points and the third player would receive only one point to his total.

The Ballon d’Or winner will be officially announced on the 12th of January 2015 and before the final announcement, a shortlist of the first three contenders to the title would be announced by FIFA. If Ronaldo wins this time, this would constitute his third win while if Messi wins, he would make history by being the first player in the world to have won five Ballon d’Or.

The top contenders Messi, Neuer and Ronaldo face tough competition for this prestigious award and until the results are out by January 2015.
