Dortmund are a New Side This Season, Top of the Bundesliga Table After Matchweek 2
A number of chances went abegging in the first half of Dortmund’s game against Ingolstadt. At any point, their opponents could go on the counter and get that important lead. Of course, during the length of the last season, this is what happened.
Yet it’s a different story this season. There would be no defeat to one of the weakest teams in the Bundesliga in this away fixture.
First, it was Ginter who got one past Orjan Nyland, the Ingolstadt goalkeeper. Then Reus made it two goals to nothing by a spot kick with only an hour into the game.
For the rest of the match, Dortmund simply sauntered along with two more goals coming from Kagawa and Aubameyang. This was BVB’s second win in the Bundesliga from two games and which propelled them to the top of the table by virtue of goal difference. The last time Dortmund found themselves in such a position was about two years ago.
Tuchel, Dortmund’s new manager, had this to say about the Ingolstadt game, “I’m especially pleased that in the second half. We managed to liberate ourselves from the dissatisfaction and frustration, from the self-fulfilling prophecy of thinking ‘if you don’t score, you’ll concede at some point’, and that we totally stayed focused on our task of doing what we were intending to do on the pitch.”
With a number of wins already under their belt in the new season, fans are already beginning to sense that a Bundesliga title is on the cards. Of course, it’s too early to speculate but Hummels has had to answer questions about their chances this season.
Yet what is for certain is that the small chances that Tuchel has brought to the side is beginning to make a real difference.
