Mourinho believes Eden Hazard is better than Ronaldo, Lucky to Get Away With No Injury Last Season
Mourinho believes that Eden Hazard performed much better than Cristiano Ronaldo last season since it was due to the former’s effort that Chelsea won the Premier League last season.
In explaining why he thinks Hazard was better, Mourinho said, “Last season, yes [Hazard was better]. In spite of the fact that Ronaldo was fantastic. He was fantastic. He scored an incredible number of goals. I am not saying he is not fantastic. I am just saying that, in my personal view, every football player in the world should understand that a team has to be in front and no titles.”
Most football fans would know that Ronaldo, despite such an incredible performance, was unable to obtain any domestic or European silverware for Real Madrid in 2014/15.
Mourinho also believes that Hazard was fortunate enough not to get a serious injury even though he was at the wrong end of almost 40 tackles last season. This resulted in a yellow card as well.
In fact, he goes on to say that Hazard was lucky to not break a leg due to the harsh challenges but didn’t want to mention any names since the season is over. Finally, the Chelsea manager also said that he would like ‘more protection’ for Hazard in the upcoming season given his ‘fantastic’ contribution in the previous one.
Having beaten Paris Saint Germain in the International Champions Cup clash on penalties, they now face European champions, FC Barcelona, over the final weekend of July.
