Neymar’s Dad Reveals United Interest in his Son, Missed Two Brazil Qualifiers

Neymar’s father has revealed that Manchester United had made an offer for his son but neither the star or the Catalan club showed any interest in the proposal made.

In speaking with Fox Sports Brazil, Neymar Sr. said, “Barcelona’s directors came to speak with us. They said that United had made an offer, but that they didn’t have any interest in accepting it. We also said that we didn’t want to and the matter ended there.”

Apart from this, Neymar’s father did not reveal any details about the offer made. However, reports from England suggest that United were willing to pay almost 240 million pounds and which included both a long-term contract and a buyout.

Currently, Neymar’s contract with Barca will expire in June 2018 but the club has expressed their desire to extend the contract further and increasing the deal soon. Of course, the only issue that stands in the way of renewal is the legal battles that Neymar faces.

Speaking of which, the Brazilian captain finds himself embroiled in controversy, thanks to his big money move to Blaugrana from Santos. In fact, the club has gone as far as to ask FIFA to suspend Neymar for upto six month due to an alleged breach of contract.

It was only last month that a Brazil court froze Neymar’s asset amounting to 188.8 million Brazilian reals for evading taxes to 63 million reals between 2011 and 2013.

Neymar, who has missed a couple of Brazil qualifiers, will be back on the pitch to play against Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou.
